4. Fields of Research
 The emphasis of the research is both to develop and apply scanned probe techniques and instrumentation, to study fundamental properties of surfaces, structures and devices at the nanometre scale, to fabricate new electronic and magnetic devices based on nanoscale properties and to develop sensors for environmental monitoring and medicine. As such the research crosses a number of scientific disciplines including mechanical engineering, chemistry, materials, physics and biotechnology.
