“the East Asia Science and Innovation Area”Joint Research Program (e-ASIA JRP)
Japan-Vietnam-Thailand Joint Research Projects

1. Aims of the Program

This Joint Research Program aims to promote collaboration with and among prospective Members of the e-ASIA JRP and contribute to the future development of science and technology in Japan, by conducting joint research projects in strategically important research fields determined by the Board of the Program.

2. Fields of collaboration

Projects in the research fields of “Nanotechnology and Materials” and “Biomass and Plant Science” were jointly call for by JST, Vietnamese MOST and Thai NSTDA.

3. Prospective Applicants

Japanese, Vietnamese and Thai researchers at universities, research institutes or companies were invited to submit proposals for cooperative research projects in the research fields described above.

4. Period of Research

Three years.

5. Amount of Funding

39milion yen from JST to Japanese researchers per project over three years, inclusive of overhead cost.

6. Funded Expenses

Funding provided within this call is intended to enhance the capacity of the applicants to collaborate. Funding will therefore be provided mainly in support of collaborative activities such as travel and holding symposia/seminars and may include some of the local research such as facilities, equipment and consumables, that are necessary for the collaboration. Overhead can be also claimed though it should be 30 percent or less of direct cost.

7. Evaluation Process

Based on the evaluation results produced separately by experts commissioned by JST, MOST and NSTDA, the three parties successfully negotiated to decide on the successful projects.

8. Evaluation Criteria

The following general evaluation criteria were applied to each application:
(1) Conformity with Program Aims and Designated Research Fields
(2) Capability of Research Leaders and Current Research Activities
(3) Effectiveness and Synergy of the Joint Research Activity
(4) Validity of Research Plan
(5) Effectiveness and Continuity of Exchange
(6) Validity of Exchange Plan
