Inductive stuffs which can induce limb regeneration responses have been sought for a long time. We found such stuffs in axolotl. Gdf5, Fgf2, and Fgf8 application into wounded axolotl skin resulted in a limb. Thus, these three proteins can be used as a regenerative medicine for urodele amphibians. This finding can be expected to make a new approach for limb regeneration in higher vertebrates.
