Koichi Yamada

Yamada’s professional career started at the Sumitomo Chemical Co. After working there for 26 years as a director of inorganic material research division, he moved to the University of Tokyo as a professor at the Department of Chemical System Engineering.

His carrier also includes Professor of Department of Chemical System Engineering at Shinshu University; Managing Director at the Research Institute of Innovative Technology for the Earth and Managing Director at the University of Tokyo; Visiting Professors at Seikei University, Nara Institute of Science and Technology, Kyoto Sangyo University, and Edith Cowan University.

He has held position as Deputy Director-General at the Center for Low Carbon Society Strategy, Japan Science and Technology Agency since 2009. He has concurrently served as the Executive Advisor, Office of the President at the University of Tokyo.

Yamada has published over 180 papers in referred journals and more than ten books in the area of material science, chemical engineering and global environmental engineering. His books include New Vision for 2050 (Nikkei BP, 2016), Future of Japan in 2030 (Nikkei BP, 2014), Power Crisis (Discover21, 2011), Energy Technologies (Springer-Verlag, 2002), Photovoltaic Engineering (Nikkei BP, 2002) and Introduction to Eco-materials (Ohm Co., 1999). Yamada holds a bachelor’s degree in Engineering from Yokohama National University and a Dr. of Engineering from the University of Tokyo, Japan, specialized in Applied Chemistry.
