II. Application Guidelines

Common Items

1. Application Deadline

August 12, 2002 (Monday) Postmarks should be no later than this date.
(Please note that applications submitted later than the above data will not be accepted.)

2. Proposal Preparation


(1)	Please follow the directions on the proposal form.
(2)	The proposal forms can be downloaded from this Web site ((http://www.jst.go.jp/solicitation/index.html) . (Applicable software: Ichitaro Ver. 9 or higher, or MS-WORD Ver. 6 or higher.)
(3)	Prepare the proposal on A4-size paper where possible using a word processor. Number pages consecutively in the bottom right-hand corner of each page.
(4)	Proposals should be prepared in Japanese in principle, but researchers with foreign nationalities may prepare their proposals in English.
(5)	Any modifications or corrections of the accepted proposal may not be allowed.
(6)	It is not required to attach any paper to the proposal. Some documents, such as extra printed paper or reference materials, may be requested if necessary.
(7)	Select the research type that is most appropriate for the proposed research and manpower, after considering the research expenses (overall amount) anticipated by each research program.
(8)	Regarding the research director and main research participants, describe the themes for the research being conducted or for which subsidies are being applied for under other research support systems Please note acceptance may be canceled or some joint research may be unable to participate in the research team if full information is not provided.

3. Proposal Submission


(1)	Please send completed proposal forms to the locations given on page 8, by either registered mail or express delivery service. Write "Encl.: Proposal "(xx) (research program name)" "(xx) (research area name)". in red on the surface of the envelope. JST will send notification of receipt to the sender about two weeks after the deadline. If you have not received notification by about two weeks after the deadline, please contact JST. If the proposal is incomplete, it might be rejected.
(2)	The original shall be submitted with five copies (stapled together in the upper left corner).
(3)	JST will use the proposal only for the purpose of examination, and will keep contents secret.
(4)	JST will not return the proposal to the applicant.
