Outline

Ionic activation of methane to form stable ionic adspecies on the catalyst surface will construct catalytic reactions giving target chemicals through the mechanism which is completely different from the mechanism through the formation of methyl radical intermediates. In this study, we construct a strong base site at the interface between metal oxides and organic modifiers by constructing a self-assembled hybrid catalyst from the organic modifiers and metal oxides, and we realize heterolytic cleavage of methane by the ionic activation of methane.
