Lipids have key roles in various cellular processes particularly in cellular signaling, energy storage, and the structural integrity of cell membranes. For understanding the details of lipid dynamics in individual cells, fluorescence imaging using super-resolution microscopy has been one of the most powerful tools. In this project, based on photo-resistant fluorophores, I aim at developing a novel precise technique for analyzing lipid dynamics in living cells. Fluorescent probes for selectively imaging intracellular lipid droplet as well as lipid molecules on the membrane at the super-resolution level enable for detailed study of lipid dynamics in real time.
