Outline

Ultra small metal oxide particles with 1-2 nm size will be prepared in the precisely controlled nano-spaces of organic cages, that have been derivatized to offer multiple internal nucleation sites. The resultant encapsulated molecular metal oxides (EMMOs) are expected to exhibit specific physical properties which cannot be realized by bulk materials or discrete molecules. In addition, the EMMOs will combine the high designability of discrete organic molecules with the varied functionalities of nano-sized particles. In this project, I will explore the specific physical and chemical properties of EMMOs through precise control of their size and structure to develop a new class of innovative functional materials.
