Investigation of the ON-OFF visual transmission pathways in retinal circuits governing visual behavioral responses

Associate professor,Department of Pharmacy,Ritsumeikan University

The processing of visual information involves a network of primary, secondary, and tertiary neurons in the retina prior to transmission to the brain.

The retinal outputs support not only pattern vision but also non-image-forming functions.

The retinal bipolar interneuron mediates a key process of visual transmission by segregating the visual signals into ON-center and OFF-center pathways.

I will investigate how visual behavioral responses are governed by ON-OFF visual pathways using a combinational approach of genetics, electrophysiology, and behavioral tests.
