Supervisor's Opinions on Public Invitation and Selection |

Research on the construction of nano-sized
materials and structures has widely been conducted in conventional
materials science. However, few systematized technologies that
build "a desired structure at a desired place at a desired
timing" are available. Moreover, techniques by which atoms
and molecules are organized into a structure of a practical
scale by "Structural class was exceeded" to express
functions will become increasingly more important in the future.
Hence, in this research area, creative research proposals that
contain the concepts of "programmed" and "build-up" are
solicited. "Program" means principles for constructing "a
desired structure at a desired place at a desired timing".
In addition, "Build-up" means to build up atoms and
molecules for construction among structure formation techniques.
The difficulty of nano-technologies of a build-up type lies
in the systematization of processes for obtaining practical
outputs by transmitting human intensions to molecules and atoms
or a base plate on which the molecules and atoms are organized
into a nano-structure. This systematization can not be achieved
overnight. It requires research on molecular and atomic interactions
and on information transmission to the base plate on which
the nano-structures are built. It also requires theoretical
contemplation.
The purposes of choosing this research area are to secure diverse
technologies leading to the construction of nano-structures
and discoveries of their functions by providing creative ideas
contained in such various approaches with opportunities for
great leaps and to find new technological buds that can turn
into systematized technologies in the future. Although it does
not matter whether the key point of creativity is a method
for the construction of nano-structures or a function expressed
by the structure, the control of construction process for the
nano-structures should be one that exerts effects on the inherent
properties of the system. Research proposals with a wide view
that take into consideration continuous processes combining
phenomena occurring at various scales ranging from a nano-scale
to a practical scale are welcome, even if the study digs deep
only to a limited extent. It is intended to positively adopt
challenging high-risk studies from the viewpoint of securing
diversity. |
