Outline

Oxidation of methane is a “dream reaction” for catalyst researchers because of its highly inactive C-H bond. However, some microbes, called “methanotrophs”, could excute this dream reaction in a tremendous scale (1 billion t /yr) on the earth. This research explores creation of a novel-type of methane-oxidizing catalyst via synthetic biology appropach, and its application for production of useful chemicals.
