Outline

This project aims to develop pocket-size laser cooling systems for both neutral atoms and nanoparticles. The laser cooling system for neutral atoms will provide an absolute gravimeter with a resolution one order of magnitude higher than that of compact-sized spring type used on resource-exploration underwater vehicles. The laser cooling system for nanoparticles implements a high-sensitivity clinometer having two orders of magnitude higher sensitivity compared with the most recent technology, which can be used for earthquake prediction and investigation of volcanic activity.
