Outline

Currently, the development of a light sensing technique called LIDAR is in high demand for various applications including self-driving cars, security sensing and autonomous robots. The key component of LIDAR is a compact laser light source capable of electrically and two-dimensionally scanning its direction of emission. This research aims to develop compact laser chips which can scan the light emission direction electrically and two-dimensionally by introducing and systematizing the physical properties of a new concept called “modulated photonic crystal laser”.
