1. Objectives

The e-ASIA Joint Research Program (e-ASIA JRP) is an international joint initiative by public funding organizations in the East Asia Summit member countries*. With a central focus on the Southeast Asian region, the e-ASIA JRP cofunding mechanism aims to strengthen regional research and development capabilities and resolve common challenges in the region. Through the e-ASIA JRP platform participating funding organizations each play an equal role in promoting international multilateral joint research and research exchanges, with three or more research teams each receiving support from the funding organizations in their respective countries.

The e-ASIA JRP was inaugurated in June 2012 with the participation of 9-member funding organizations from 8 countries including JST. To pursue the objectives, the e-ASIA JRP focuses on regional relevance of research, mutual benefits/synergy from joint research and the effectiveness of exchanges. Through activities such as joint calls for research proposals, joint workshops for network building among researchers, and information exchange on S&T policies etc., the e-ASIA JRP proactively promotes multilateral research cooperation in the region.

*The East Asia Summit member nations: 10 ASEAN member nations, Japan, Australia, China, India, New Zealand, Russia, South Korea and United States*
