Invitation to a Hands-on Workshop in Yokohama (October 19-21, 2006)

A hands-on workshop on various areas of structural biology including membrane protein crystallography is scheduled from 19th to 21st of October, 2006. Research Director Prof. So Iwata is the organiser of:

Course II: High Throughput Overexpression, Purification and Crystallization of Membrane Proteins

The course is to be offered on the second day of the workshop. Please join us and get all your burning questions answered by the expert.

Details

  • Date: October 20, 2006
  • Venue:Tsurumi Campus, Yokohama City University and RIKEN Yokohama Institute
  • Organizer: So Iwata (Imperial College London, Diamond Light Source, ERATO HRC project)
  • Invited Speakers: David Drew (Imperial College London), Takuya Kobayashi (ERATO HRC project) and Takeshi Murata (ERATO HRC project)
  • Sponsor: Imperial College Centre for Structural Biology (other sponsors will be announced).

Course Summary

In the workshop, we will address the latest progress in the high throughput crystallography on membrane proteins. In the morning session, we will have three short talks on (i) membrane protein expression using GFP fusions (ii) expression of G-Protein coupled receptors and (iii) crystallisation methods in membrane proteins. In the afternoon, we will have a practical session on the fast detection of membrane protein expression level using the whole cell and in-gel GFP fluorescence. Experts of membrane protein expression, purification and crystallisation from Imperial College London and ERATO Human Receptor Crystallography project will support the practice of the course tutees and answer their questions.

[Update]

The course material for the practical session is adapted from a popular paper published on Nature Method this April, and handled by its first author. (2006.9.21)

Prof. Ray Stevens of Scripps Research Institute kindly agreed to have a presentation on their Joint Center for Innovative Membrane Protein Technologies (JCIMPT). Please note the the course will start 10 minutes earlier than previously announced to accommodate the change. (2006.8.22)
