Global analysis on geometric variational problems and its applications

The interface between two non mixing media is often represented as a surface. The equilibrium surface will form so as to attempt to minimize its energy subject to whatever constraints and additional forces are imposed by its environment, that is, the surface will be a critical point of a certain variational problem. In this research, in cooperation with scientists in non-mathematical fields, such as physics or physical chemistry, we pose natural and rigorous problems on variational theory and try to solve them. Moreover, we attempt to find new subjects and methods in this field to develop both of mathematics and other sciences.
