The elucidation of evolutionarily conserved mechanisms that activate innate immune system by "intrinsic ligands"
Chronic inflammation is considered to be a basis for lifestyle related diseases, such as cancer and obesity. NF-κB is a major regulator of chronic inflammation, and thus we have investigated the mechanisms of NF-κB activation. We previously have found that a novel signaling pathway that activates NF-κB in Drosophila and mammalian cells. In this study, we are seeking to identify all components of this pathway to find new factors that regulate chronic inflammation, hopefully leading to a discovery of clinical targets for lifestyle related diseases.
