Investigation of lupus-like chronic nephritis in a mouse model
Chronic inflammation causes various illnesses, such as an autoimmune disease; however, the mechanism remains to be clarified. Recently we have obtained the mouse which has point mutation in a virus sensor molecule MDA5 and develops lupus-like nephritis. Utilizing this mouse model, chronic inflammation caused by the defect of innate immune system and involvement of viral infection in this inflammation are investigated. We aim at the elucidation of pathomechanisms in the development of nephritis and also at new establishment of the prevention and treatment for human lupus nephritis.
