Outline of the Project

The purpose of this research is to improve the studies on functional materials such as luminescent compounds, liquid crystals, dyes, etc. by using silyl-substituted aromatic compounds.  To realize this purpose, the following subjects are studied.

1) Molecular design of silyl-substituted aromatic compounds showing highly efficient luminescence, especially, room-temperature phosphorescence in a crystal state
2) Structures and properties of cubic liquid crystals with a silyl group as a side chain.
3) Application of silyl-substituted aromatic compounds to highly sensitive functional dyes.
4) Development of novel silylation methods of aromatic compounds.
